Welcome! I am extremely excited to be working with your child this year in Discovery! This will be my 22nd year of teaching in Douglas County! 20 of those years were spent at Coyote Creek Elementary School where I taught 4th for 13 years, a 5/6 combo for two years, 6th for two years, and 6th grade math for three years that included a pre-algebra course. I also taught 5th grade for two years in Denver Public Schools. My experiences over the years, with many types of learners, are diverse. It is always my goal to meet individual students where they are and have them work to achieve their full potential.

This year we will be explorers of Colorado and creators in many areas! I believe in providing all students with opportunities that will engage them in the learning process by tapping into passions and interests in a safe, rigorous, relevant, and inviting environment. As a Leader in Me School, we will work with all habits to be well-rounded citizens.

Communication between school and home is imperative. I have an open-door policy and welcome conversations that will best meet your child’s unique needs. The best way to contact me is through my e-mail address; klbraun@dcsdk12.org. I check this regularly and respond in a timely manner.

A little bit more about me:

I have lived in my home in Highlands Ranch since 1991. My husband, Mike, and I have raised seven children who have provided us with ten beautiful grandchildren! He and I like to fish the Colorado lakes and rivers, travel to Wyoming to fish and golf, and Florida to visit family and fish off Key West. I love the water, playing the piano, solving puzzles, golfing, gardening, reading, staying active, spending time with family and friends, and continuing to learn and grow as an educator and leader in my profession. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.  I also completed my Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies Program at University Colorado Denver. My research and learning about Gifted and Talented students has been ongoing throughout my career with a current endorsement in this field of study.

Again, welcome to 4/5 Discovery. It’s going to be a great year!!

Sincerely,

Kirsten Braun
